Evie Jean Curry Christmas, age 91 of Cottondale, went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born on September 20, 1925 in Holmes County, Florida to Alvin Curry and Retta Forehand Curry. She was a resident of the panhandle since 1966, and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Cottondale, Florida. Jean was a loving, generous and dignified mother and Granny. She loved fishing, gardening, and was a great cook. She was also a military wife and was a volunteer for the Chipola Christian Ministries for 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Alvin and Retta Curry. Grandson: Jonathan Harris. 2 brothers: Glynn and Shorty Curry.
She is survived by her son: Steve Christmas and wife Suzette of Cottondale, Florida; three daughters: Sandra Brockway and husband Fred of North Carolina, Wanda Harris and husband Roy of Milton, Florida, Debbie Newsome and husband Eddie of Marianna, Florida; three brothers: Leroy Curry and wife Betty of Alabama, Simon Curry and wife Altha of Bonifay, Florida, Lloyd Curry and wife Joan of Bluebell, Pennsylvania; two sisters: Adeline Gray and Lois Daines both of Warner Robbins, Georgia; four grandchildren: Melissa, Jason, Rachel and Jessica. six great grandchildren: Anna, Camden, Jack, Jake, Jude and Rebekah. Former husband Hamp Christmas of Graceville, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 2P.M. Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Cottondale, Florida with Rev. Richard Ellison and Steve Christmas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing. Asked to serve as pallbearers: John Tharp, Butch Wise, William Zick, Bill Maphis, Matthew Woodham and John Duger. Honorary Pallbearers: Jason Harris, Roy Harris, Eddie Newsome and Fred Brockway.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
